Who we are
The Purbeck Women's Institute (WI) is a local branch of the Women's Institute, a UK-based organization that brings women together for community involvement, education, and personal development. The Women's Institute was founded in 1915 to revitalize rural communities and encourage women to get involved in producing food during the war effort. Over time, it evolved to focus on empowering women and tackling social, cultural, and environmental issues.
The Purbeck branch serves the Purbeck area in Dorset, England. Women's Institutes typically host a wide range of activities, including educational talks, workshops, social events, and charity efforts, and members often engage in campaigns to bring attention to local or national causes. Each branch, including Purbeck, operates semi-autonomously but follows the core values and ethos of the national WI organization.
